Sexual Abuse and Violence Awareness Week, Sending Applications and Seeing Friends [Weekly Catchup 4]

Afternoon everyone,

This week has gone incredibly fast. I think February is whizzing past at a much more faster pace than January did. The weather in London is stunning at the moment. The sun occasionally peeks through the clouds in the morning. The somewhat chill is also quite enjoyable. The transition phase between winter and spring is my favourite thing. With climate change, it's almost obvious that the 'transition' isn't so stark as winter is becoming shorter and summer is getting longer and hotter. The longer summer is enjoyable but it is so alarming. Towards the end of the week, however, we had a loud storm that lasted through the weekend. It's lovely to just watch the rain from the comfort of my home but I cannot imagine how inconvenient it probably is.

On Monday, I worked on my story and did some location maps. I drew on some rough paper what I wanted my fictional town to look like and what kind of facilities I wanted the town to have. I already had drawn a rough map of the school my characters attend and also the homes that the characters frequent most often. This really helps with consistency when writing. While you might have a perfect picture of exactly where everything is in your story but the reader will need descriptions and more obvious imagery to understand exactly where you intend everything to be.

I also went with friends to a cafe near my house and got to try Karak Chai. It was so amazing. I also had some chocolate mousse while my friends went for the savoury route and got kebab and omelettes. The meet up was very needed as we just caught up on each other's lives.

My friend and I also worked on an Instagram project together for Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week. I did the artwork while she wrote the poem. The statistics for sexual violence is absolutely shocking but shows only half of the story. The lack of clarity regarding sex and consent only complicates it further. Better and more comprehensive sex education is absolutely vital. Consent and definitions of sexual assault and rape are blurred and confused. There is a legal answer to defining the terms, however, the law does not operate in isolation. There is a lack of knowledge regarding the definitions. This only causes more unsafe situations for people who do not know that what someone is doing to them is actually illegal.

On Tuesday, I did a huge clean up of my clothes. My wardrobe was a mess with clothes hanging off every single shelf. I organised the garments and folded them up. I also ironed up my blazers and folded them up nicely. It took such a long time. I also reviewed through my notes regarding an interview. I started watching Emma (an adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma).

On Wednesday, I revised the firm's details for a little while then met with friends for a late lunch at the O2. We went to Busaba and I tried some new wok noodles. It was so nice but so spicy. I was drinking water after every bite because it was impossible to just continue eating. It tasted so delicious. We, then, walked around the O2 and window shopped at Yankee Candles. There was an event happening at the O2 so there were so many people (picture above for reference). I came home and did some more writing on my story and finished Emma.

On Thursday, I attended the interview. I also walked around Chancery Lane for a few minutes because it was just so sunny outside. I could not bear to go back underground. I did a bit of vegetable shopping at the local market then went home. Spent the rest of the day working on blog posts and brainstorming new content. I also wrote a little bit more on my story.

On Friday, I received the results of my interview. They rejected my application. It was hard to accept this at first but the job searching process is full of these pitfalls. No matter how much you might want a job or a role, it might not be the right match for you and that is okay. The other side of rejection is the opening of a new opportunity. Job searching process can really dampen your mental health so it is vital to just take care of yourself during this process.

On Saturday, I took a bit of a day off. I watched some youtube. I also caught up with a friend. We went to shake shack and just chilled out for a few hours. Then I went home and watched Erin Brockovich. The movie is about a case in which a secretary(?) finds out about this huge environmental contamination issue that involved hundreds of plaintiffs. The film was very inspiring and I do think it's a great watch if you like female-centred films or films about the legal sector.

On Sunday, I worked on my story because I felt like I wasn't making any movements forward. I managed to also plan a few more chapters of the story so that there was a logical movement in the story and the plot wasn't being hindered with unnecessary extraneous detail. I also had a call with some friends regarding a project we are working together on which we are incredibly excited about.

This week has been a real roller coaster of emotions. A lot of things happened. It was also a very nice week because it was full of so many different things happening. I hope your week went well and I will see you in my next post!

Sincerely Sinthu

How I Reflect

Afternoon, everyone! So in today's post, I will be discussing my favourite way of reflecting. It goes without saying that there are so many different ways of reflecting and none of them is good or bad. Everyone has their own way of reflecting. This is the way that works well for me. It's always worth giving new techniques a go to better yourself and your lifestyle. In order to do this method, you need a plain paper and a pen. That's it. 1) You have to draw a grid. Now, this grid can be however big or small you'd like it to be. It can include whatever categories you feel is relevant for your life. My categories are usually health and fitness, career, relationships and myself. You can have as many or as little categories but 4 is a good number. By separating your life into compartments in this way, it will help you really analyse the different areas of life. 2) Once you have the basic structure, you can add two different subheadings under each section. Under you...

Optimism During These Pessimistic Times

Good Afternoon, Everyone! This post is going to be a heavy one because it's all about mental health during this period where everything is actually falling apart. That's a lie: not everything is falling apart but it really feels that way. While the reminder that we are in a first-world country where we are in a far more privileged position than others is sobering, it doesn't negate the fact that a lot of us are probably struggling. Watching the news or speaking to people is just a constant reminder of what is happening in the world. Some of us have decided to panic and buy all the toilet paper and hand sanitiser. Yet again, we will not do well in a zombie apocalypse. But we have to stop and take a step back before we fall back into old habits. These are hard times for all of us and we have got to recognise that. We cannot ignore the fact that there are people dying all the time and the numbers are only growing every day. However, we have to also realise that there is no...
