Revision Tips

Afternoon everyone! How's your day going? Is it well? Guess what, your exams are probably sooner than you think they are. I am sorry to be the bringer of the bad news. Let's go over some revision tips and tricks to help you conquer through all your exams. I want to preface this by saying that I am not an expert at taking exams. The following tips are simple methods you could try out. Some might work for you and some might not. Not everything will work for everyone. I have broken it down into different learning styles but don't let that stop you from using whatever methods takes your interest. Visual 1) Create mindmaps or brainstorms. Mindmaps are basically a tree that breaks off into branches with information about the central topic (bark of the tree). Each branch then breaks off further for more detail or explanation. This video  explains concisely how to mindmap. This method can be useful in so many different subjects. If there is a subject that requires you t...

5 Myths About Law School

Afternoon everyone! Hope you are all doing wonderful this afternoon. So I've completed my LPC and I thought this will be the perfect time to look back on my journey and bust some myths that I believed before starting my journey. 1) Law school will be stylish. So who has seen Suits or How To Get Away With Murder? Both shows feature people in the legal sector and they are all dressed impeccably. Most of the characters in the shows lead very beautifully gorgeous lives with the perfect house and the perfect car. In reality, law school is not stylish. Most law students wear whatever they want to. They all come from varied economic backgrounds. Some days you'll see the odd few people wearing business casual outfits but really it depends on the weather and if there are any events going on. 2) Law is all about reading large textbooks and journals. For the large part, textbooks provide further guidance and knowledge on legal topics. It is pretty useful for essays and coursework. T...

How To Answer a Problem Question

Afternoon, everyone! Happy New Year everyone! So exams are around the corner so let's get back to basics. This is for my law students whose exams contain problem questions.  Let's go over how to answer a problem question. This post will be incredibly general so be wary of what is expected of you from your relevant module or criteria to make sure you pick up all the marks. 1) Read your question and highlight all the key variables. Usually, the last paragraph will give you an idea of what the examiner is expecting you to answer. Make a big mental note of this to make sure you are not putting down way more than you need to. Having this in your head will help you tailor your answer better. The key question is what does your client actually want to know? 2) When writing, introduce what the client wants advice on so that the examiner knows that you have understood exactly what the question is asking you to do. A simple one to two lines will be sufficient. 3) Is there a part...

How To Answer Essay Questions

Afternoon, everyone! So, how is your holiday going? I hope you're enjoying yourself. I know some of you are probably stressed because you might be sitting exams or writing papers within the first few weeks of the new year. So let's get back to basics. How do you answer an essay question? I remember during my undergraduate my tutors drummed the importance of structure and form over and over again. Having a good structure for your essay will help you with the flow of your writing and it will make it so much easier for your tutors to understand exactly where your essay is heading. It will help with the direction of your essay to prevent you from putting in extraneous information that doesn't need to be there. The structure of your essay has to be something that follows the marking scheme and criteria. Some topics might require you to have an introduction and proper conclusion while others don't. You could have subtitles or not, it really depends on your marking crite...

Supplies for Law School

Afternoon everyone! Hope you are all doing well during this gloomy afternoon. Perfect weather for a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. This post will list all the things you could need when you start law school. These are things I found to be essentials for productivity and organisation at university. 1) A working laptop. I cannot stress how important a laptop is. Your university will often require you to access things online and complete work on a computer. It is so important to have a laptop. It doesn't have to be the best one or the trendiest one but just one that does its job. 2) Notebooks or A4 lined paper if you like making notes with a pen and paper. If you like to type up your notes instead, you do not need this. I did a mixture of the two when I was studying at university and I prefered the notebooks method as I felt I was more engaged with the information I was writing down but it is absolutely up to you. 3) Planner. This will help you organise your time and allow ...
