The Flu and the NHS [Weekly Catch up 3]

Afternoon everyone!

Hope this week went wonderful for you! How did it go, did you get up to anything interesting?

So this week consisted of me catching a fever from my dad which then progressed into the flu. I lost my voice in the process. Losing my voice has made me realise just how much I take advantage of my vocal cords. The simple fact of not being able to answer questions or ask for something was excruciating.

On the flip side, it was also incredibly gratifying. Silence is magical sometimes. Especially when you are going through a transition period or having conflict within your relationships, silence can be a blessing in disguise. This week was a blessing in disguise. While I couldn't really tick off any tasks and couldn't socialise much, it was relaxing. It felt akin to a dopamine fast. It was like hitting the reset button and starting again.

Another topic I wanted to discuss is the NHS. I adore and love the NHS. I am not quite sure where I will be if it wasn't for the NHS supporting my entire family through all ailments. I would even argue that the NHS isn't to blame for the long waiting times or the ineffectiveness of their service. They are so underfunded and understaffed. They are not taken as a priority. This has a net effect of diminishing their quality of service. The past election was particularly an indication of what the government's and parties' perspective of the NHS was. This BBC article suggests that the NHS has to set a pot of money for settling potential medical negligence claims, however, the ripple effect of poor performance is a lack of investment. Lack of true investigations on why medical negligences happened is only a contributor. More and more medical negligence claims and inquests are being conducted within the NHS and it's not that surprising.

I cannot thank the NHS enough. I remember vividly, my grandma was taken to the A&E as a result of increased blood sugar levels and a fever on New Years Day. All the nurses and the doctors worked so hard to help her get better and I can never forget how dedicated they are. They are the modern-day overlooked heroes.

I finished Merlin last week. All 5 seasons took me 2 months to watch through and it was amazing to see the graphics and character depth improving throughout the seasons. Some episodes came off very repetitive and the creators could have gone in a more controversial avenue with more emotional events and character deaths. The intended audience is probably young so the stylistic decision of telling an adventurous story without too much darkness is cohesive.

That's it from me this week! I will see you in my next post!

Sincerely Sinthu

Benefits of Social Media Detox

Good Afternoon, Everyone! The sun is shining so much and it's an absolutely gorgeous day. I hope you are all doing wonderfully. During December 2019 and January 2020, I went off Instagram. I deleted the app and posted occasionally using the website. In today's post, I will be discussing the observations I made during the detox. 1) Vanity is not everything. Vanity is only surface level. It's not tangible or consistent. It's fleeting. Vanity comes in many forms on social media: clothes, body, hair, house, car and so on. Looks are not everything. What's far more important is who you are. Are you kind or courageous? Are you brave? These are far more important than what you look like. 2) Likes and followers have no value. Likes and follower count has absolutely no significance to my life and my ambitions. Sure, for an Instagram influencer that will be a different story but my ambitions do not have the term 'be popular on Instagram'. I think it's unfair ...
